Micromax is working on launching a new sub
Rs 15,000 device which will rival Xiaomi Mi3
Micromax, the number 2 smartphone manufacturer in the
country has had its position in a slew of segments on more
than one occasion. And it has been quick to react to the
competition as well. The launch of Moto G was followed by a
slew of budget quad cores and the launch of Moto E was
followed by slightly better specced devices too. It is not
going to sit around after the launch of the Xiaomi Mi3 and it
is planning to come up with a new device to combat the
same.
Micromax is believed to be working on a handset running on
Snapdragon 800 these days which will cost below Rs
15,000. The smartphone will come with a 5-inch display
with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and Corning Gorilla
Glass for protection. It might skip the Corning Gorilla Glass.
A 2.3 Ghz quad core Snapdragon 800 processor will be
present under the hood which will be coupled with a 2GB
RAM.
An Adreno 330 GPU will be taking charge of the graphics
department. At the back of the device will be a 13-MP
camera with LED flash and the front will be adorned by a
5MP camera. The internal storage will stand at 16GB which
will be further expandable by another 64GB and this is
where it will take the lead from the Xiaomi Mi3. A 2,600
mAh battery will be powering the device.
It will run on Android 4.4 KitKat. It might even come at a
lower price than the Mi3 but Micromax will find it pretty
difficult to do so. This is because Xiaomi operates on very
less margins in its devices and depends on its MIUI and
related services for revenues. But Micromax gives almost a
stock android experience on its devices and does not have
an ecosystem like Xiaomi has on offer.
And this is where things might get a bit muddy for
Micromax.
